Orange Blossoms

Orange Blossoms

More fondly called “reindeer poop” in our family, these delightful treats are a no-bake recipe that actually get better and more flavorful the longer they sit. The original recipe came from a 1950s magazine, before microwaves!

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Makes about 4-1/2 dozen

  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sugar, plus more for dipping
  • 3 Tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup orange juice, warmed to room temperature
  • 12 oz box finely crushed vanilla wafer cookies
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
  • Measure out your orange juice and let sit to bring to room temperature.
  • Melt the chocolate chips.
  • Stir in 1/2 cup sugar and 3 Tablespoons of corn syrup.
  • Add in the 1/2 cup of room temperature orange juice and mix well until blended.
  • In another bowl, combine the 12 oz box of finely crushed vanilla wafer cookies and 1 cup of nuts.
  • Combine chocolate mixture with wafer mixture and stir well until thoroughly combined.
  • Form into 1″ balls. Drop into granulated sugar until well coated.
  • Seal in airtight container or aluminum foil and let stand several days for flavors to become more rich.
  • I usually put mine on a cookie sheet and pop them in the fridge to help them set up for a few minutes before storing.
  • You can eat them right away, but the flavor really comes to life if you let them sit a few days.
  • It is Crucial that you use room temperature orange juice. If you don’t let it sit out for awhile, it will make the chocolate set up and stirring it together becomes very difficult. You can pop it in the microwave in a safe dish for about 15 seconds to take the chill out of it if you forgot to leave it out.

This is one of my all time favorite Christmas treats. It was passed down to my mom from my great auntie Leola, and she got it from a family member that got it from a magazine. When I think of Christmas treats, this is what I think of. I hope you enjoy them as much as me and my family do!

I love these kind of recipes. I make chocolate coconut bites and apple pie bites quite often… This is gonna be the next one I will try! Thanks for sharing!
