Homemade Chex Mix

Homemade Chex Mix

I love making this in the fall because it’s such a delightful snack mix. I even make a double batch around the holidays and give it away to neighbors + friends in decorative tins. Easy to assemble and tastes so much more savory than the stuff at the store!

Prep time: 15 minutes

Bake time: 1 hour

Total time: 1 hour 15 minutes

Makes about 24 half cup servings

  • 3 cups corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups wheat Chex cereal
  • 1 cup mixed nuts
  • 1 cup mini pretzels or pretzel sticks or bite-sized pretzels
  • 1 cup garlic flavored bagel chips
  • 6 Tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt (Lawry’s)
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Grease a 9×13 baking dish or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a large bowl, combine all cereals, nuts, pretzels, and bagel chips. Mix gently.
  • In a small bowl, add your melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, and onion powder and stir well to combine.
  • Pour your small bowl over the contents of your large bowl. Stir gently to coat evenly.
  • Add all the contents to your baking dish or baking sheet and spread out as much as you can.
  • Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even baking.
  • Remove from oven and let cool completely before serving.
  • Store in airtight container.
  • If you prefer to use the microwave (I do not), use a microwavable bowl and cook on high for 5 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes and then spread out on paper towels or parchment paper to cool before storing in an airtight container.
  • If you are having a hard time finding the garlic flavored bagel chips (dark brown, crunchy pieces that are also found in Gardetto’s), check Walmart or (oddly enough) your local gas station’s snack section. For some reason I can always find them in these two places and rarely anywhere else.

This is one of my favorite snacks to have at home. I only make it in the fall and around the holidays to make it a little more special, but every time I make a batch it disappears very quickly.

If you want to make a toddler version, simply remove the nuts and garlic chips. My four year old has loved this as a snack since she was two!

We also snack on it a lot during football season and it’s a crowd favorite!

Until next time,
