Made with Oreo cookies, these are a fun treat to make and give to family members as a joke or as something a little different for the cookie tray. I’m a sucker for anything with marshmallow, and these little nuggets are super yummy!

Makes about 30 “lumps” of coal

- Family sized (1 lb) package of Oreo cookies (NOT double stuffed)
- 4 cups of mini marshmallows
- 1/4 cup (half stick) of butter

- Place Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse to practically dust. Or, using a gallon sized Ziploc bag, crush all the cookies into small pieces using a rolling pin or measuring cup.
- Place butter and marshmallows in a microwave safe dish and heat on high for 1 minute.
- Stir together until smooth.
- Add in the crushed Oreos and stir very well to combine.
- Roll into small balls and flatten slightly to create a “coal” look and shape.
- Allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

- I recommend choosing a large bowl, larger than you think, for the butter and marshmallows. When heated, marshmallows expand…
- Let the mixture cool slightly so you don’t burn your hands.
- In order to avoid a super sticky mess, I recommend coating your hands with a little butter before forming them into balls so the mixture doesn’t stick as bad.
- If you don’t want to roll them into balls, I have also seen these done in a pan as a bar, and then cut into squares. It’s a less messy option, but also doesn’t give you the “coal” look.
I tried these on a whim several years ago because, as mentioned above, I love marshmallows.
I couldn’t believe how delicious they are only being three ingredients. This is definitely a kid-friendly recipe to have them help make. Although messy, it’s a fun one and they’ll love all the hands on engagement.
I hope you love it as much as I do!
